Cost Accounting Manager

JOB SUMMARY:                                         
The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for all aspects of cost accounting and revenue recognition, including refining the company’s costing model, supporting manufacturing and engineering teams in a standard job cost based manufacturing environment. The Cost Accounting Manager must efficiently and accurately document and record data while reviewing and improving process flows. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to successfully interact with all levels of management within and outside the company. The Cost Accounting manager must display the ability to work within a team environment, make logical decisions, and show flexibility in a fast-paced environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for reviewing and refining standard job cost based costs for products, including service parts, together with raw materials, direct labor, and overhead.
  • Develop, design gross margin gap reporting.
  • Ensure adequate controls and reviews are in place for Inventory and COGS reporting, including: cost of goods sold, internal material transfers, inventory-in-transit accruals, scrapped material, purchase price variances, standard cost changes, warranty reserve, excess & obsolete inventory reserve analysis, cost closing process, inventory revaluation, annual physical inventory, monthly inventory reconciliations, capitalized variances and overhead, and cycle counting process.
  • Review costs for labor, material, and overhead to establish and periodically update standard costs to ensure they are current and accurately reflect manufacturing costs.
  • Analyze gross margins for products and prepare reports about financial performance in addition to documenting and responding to management regarding manufacturing expenses, trends, and deviations from budgets.
  • Work with Operations group to ensure Bills of Materials and routings are accurate.
  • Develop and maintain alignment of current standards reflected in cost model versus frozen cost model to provide management with product by product cost savings.
  • Ensure accurate compilations, analysis, and reporting of revenue and cost adjustments, as needed, under various presentations on a worldwide basis.
  • Work with Operations to coordinate and conduct year-end physical inventory count and audit.
  • Ability to interface successfully with other peer groups to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Review, analyze, report, and work with IT and ERP system owners to implement process improvements.
  • Process month-end journals applicable to position and prepare position related month-end reconciliations.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual preparation of various audit and financial statement schedules.
  • Interface with outside auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Comply with the company policies and procedures.
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or BA degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Must have prior experience as a Cost Accounting manager.

 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in PC applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint; and PC based accounting software such as Great Plains, SAP or Oracle manufacturing software and FrX Report Writer.
