How does 3D endoscopy work?

Depth perception is the result of our brain processing two slightly different images, one image from each of our eyes. Similarly, a 3D endoscope has two image sensors which capture different views. One view must be delivered only to your left eye, and the other to only your right eye. The 3D display achieves the separation of the left and right eye images by polarizing the light for each image oppositely. The viewer wears polarized 3D glasses to allow each eye to only see the left or right view captured by the endoscope.

4K 3D Formats: 3D video can be delivered using different formats, below are the most common used in endoscopy:

Line-by-Line:

Alternating horizontal lines make up left and right eye images

LINES PER EYE = 540 FOR HD/1080 FOR 4K

TOTAL LINES = 1080 FOR HD/2160 FOR 4K

Top/bottom:

The upper half is the left eye and the lower half is the right eye

LINES PER EYE = 540

TOTAL LINES = 1080

Separate Left/Right:

The left and right eye views are separate video signals

LINES PER EYE = 1080

TOTAL LINES = 2160
